Stay Aware, But Don’t Stop Traveling

March 06, 20262 min read

I’ve received quite a few messages after my recent newsletter.

Many of them carried the same question beneath the surface: Is it still okay to travel right now?

With everything unfolding in the Middle East, it’s understandable that people feel unsettled. The news cycle moves fast, alerts pop up constantly, and before long it can feel like the whole world is in turmoil.

But here is something I have learned after decades of traveling and living internationally.

The world is rarely as small as the headlines make it seem.

Global events matter. We should pay attention to them. Being an informed traveler is important. That means checking travel advisories, understanding geography, and keeping an eye on developments that could affect flights or specific regions.

But awareness and living your life are not opposites.

Travel has always existed alongside world events. Political shifts, conflicts, economic uncertainty, these have been part of history for as long as people have crossed borders. Yet the world keeps moving. Planes continue to fly. Trains keep running. Markets open in the morning, cafés fill with conversation, and people go about their lives.

Right now, the situation in the Middle East is serious and deserves attention. But it also doesn’t mean the entire world suddenly becomes off-limits.

France is still France.
Ireland is still Ireland.
Italy’s piazzas are still full of life.

The beauty of travel is that it reminds us how vast the world really is. When you sit across from someone in a small café, hear a different language around you, or walk through a place shaped by centuries of history, you gain perspective that you simply cannot get from a news feed.

Travel reminds us that the world is made up of people, not just headlines.

And that connection matters.

That said, smart travel matters too. Being diligent is part of the responsibility we carry as travelers. We stay informed. We plan thoughtfully. We remain flexible when things change — because sometimes they do.

But we don’t shut down our curiosity about the world.

If anything, moments like this remind me why travel is so meaningful. It opens conversations. It builds understanding between cultures. It shows us that the world is far more nuanced and human than the stories we see on a screen.

So yes, stay aware of what is happening globally.

Be thoughtful. Be informed.

But don’t stop exploring.

Because the memories you create, the people you meet, and the experiences you gather along the way will always be worth it.

And if there is one thing I know for certain after all these years of traveling, it’s this:

The world still has so much to offer.
